The New ESV Heirloom Collection

In this video I’m diving into a broad overview of the new Heirloom offerings from Crossway. You can watch the video or check out the written post below:

A Look at the New Crossway Heirloom Bibles

Today I want to walk you through the brand-new Crossway Heirloom Bible line, and I’m genuinely excited about these. Before we dive in, a quick note: this video is brought to you by my friends at Westminster Books (wtsbooks.com). You can use my code REALCAMHYDE for 5% off your entire order—and right now, these Bibles are already on a fantastic sale.

So yes… it’s a great time to look at one of these.

Welcome to Not Another Book or Bible Review. My name is Cam Hyde, and I bring you unconventional, affordable, and honest Bible and book reviews. Today, we’re looking at three of Crossway’s newest Heirloom editions:

  • Alpha
  • Gloria Day (formerly the Legacy)
  • Veritas (formerly the Heritage)

I’ve got all three here in different leathers, and I want to give you a clear overview of what makes each one special.

First Impressions

These Bibles are stunning. Truly. They arrive wrapped in quality cardstock with a beautiful ESV sticker, and every detail feels premium right out of the box. Crossway has really raised the bar with this line.

All of these are:

  • Smyth-sewn for durability
  • Edge-lined
  • Printed on 28 GSM Indopaque paper
  • Built to last a lifetime

Let’s take a closer look at each one.

The Alpha

The Alpha is the most portable of the three. It features an 8-point font, two-column layout, and a compact size that easily fits in one hand. This is the Bible you take with you everywhere.

The version I’m showing is in British Tan cowhide, and it’s gorgeous. Cowhide develops character over time—it shows wear, creases, and patina, which I personally love. It tells a story.

Compared to calfskin:

  • Calfskin is ultra-soft and buttery smooth
  • Cowhide is slightly firmer and shows character as it ages

This one includes three ribbon markers, and despite its size, it’s extremely readable for a compact Bible. If you want something portable but still premium, this is it.

The Gloria Day (Formerly the Legacy)

This Bible holds a special place for me—my first premium Bible was a Legacy, and this is its successor.

The Gloria Day is designed around what many consider the perfect page layout. It features generous margins, a reader-friendly layout, and a slightly smaller type size (around 9-point), but it reads beautifully.

The version shown here is the Granada color, a rich, deep brown with subtle red undertones. The calfskin leather is soft, flexible, and luxurious. The liner is equally smooth, giving the whole Bible a refined, elegant feel.

This Bible is a joy to read and write in, and it’s the one that originally made me fall in love with premium Bibles.

The Veritas (Formerly the Heritage)

The Veritas has officially become my favorite of the Heirloom line.

This one is in olive cowhide, and it’s stunning—almost a military-style green with a rugged personality. Like the Alpha, it will develop patina over time, and I actually want this one to show wear. It’s the kind of Bible that grows with you.

Key features:

  • Single-column layout
  • Generous margins for notes
  • Excellent line spacing (feels larger than its listed type size)
  • Red verse numbers (a new and very welcome touch)
  • Three ribbon markers

It’s incredibly readable and inviting. This is the Bible I find myself wanting to live in—marking it up, carrying it around, letting it show its story.

Final Thoughts

These new Crossway Heirloom Bibles are outstanding. They’re beautifully made, thoughtfully designed, and built to last a lifetime. Yes, premium Bibles cost more—but they’re meant to be used, not babied. I’ve seen these hold up incredibly well in real-world use.

If you’re considering one, now is the time. They’re already on sale at Westminster Books, and with my code REALCAMHYDE, you’ll get an extra 5% off.
