Welcome to my blog. I mostly write about Christian Living, but I enjoy the Kentucky Wildcats, New Orleans Saints, and a good cup of coffee.

Jesus and the Lions' Den by Alison Mitchell and Catalina Echeverri: a Book Review

Many people haven’t been taught that the stories of the Old Testament are shadows pointing to Jesus. Many, from a young age, have been taught that when they read about David and Goliath, that they are the hero of the story. That thinking comes with us as we grow older and before we know it, we have adults that are making the Bible all about them.

The best way to correct this is to teach our children how to properly interpret these stories they grow up with such as Noah’s Ark, David and Goliath, Joshua and the Great Wall, etc. That is what makes Jesus and the Lions’ Den such an awesome book! In it, author Alison Mitchell and illustrator Catalina Echeverri show both children and adults how the well-known story of Daniel being thrown into a den of lions points us to Jesus.

This book is both beautiful and well written. The author and illustrator make this book fun. They want children to look for the connections to Jesus throughout the story so while telling the traditional story of Daniel in the Lions’ Den, they hide throughout special lions in the pictures that kids can spot that will help them realize there are some what they call "Jesus moments" going on.

At the end of the book, they make the connections clearly so kids can see and understand how the story of Daniel points us to the bigger hero that is Jesus. Then at the very end, they make a simple application of the story for our children.

I can’t say enough how awesome I think this book is. It’s beautifully illustrated in a way that is fun for children. I also love the little details included. The front has a page for the child to write their name. The back page includes some history about Daniel and gives more stories in the Bible for kids to read with their parents and look for "Jesus moments" with a key on the bottom explaining some of them.

This is a really cool book that I highly recommend. I hope it becomes a favorite for my daughters. I also hope the author and illustrator will make more of these! If you have young children, go pick up a copy of Jesus and the Lions’ Den.

You can get your copy of Jesus and the Lions’ Den on Amazon.
