To call something “gospel-driven” or “gospel-centered” is trendy these days. Tacking the word gospel onto something has become so common that it has almost lost its meaning. Living in the Bible belt, this books title immediately grabbed me. There is a lot of Cultural Christianity here. Ministry is really hard because most people would tell you they are saved. In all likelihood, the ministry God has called me to is very much on the front end. However, I think that is all the more reason to already think about being faithful and finishing well. I would assume that the best people to learn those kinds of lessons from are people who have been in ministry a long time or have already finished well. That is why I’m grateful John MacArthur has written Remaining Faithful in Ministry.
I listen to Robby Gallaty’s Discipleship Podcast pretty regularly, but I had never read a book by him. When the opportunity came to review Here and Now I jumped on it. Gallaty, the senior pastor of Long Hollow Baptist Church, makes the bold claim in this book that heaven is available to us today. He will explain what he means by that audacious statement throughout the book.
Visuals are important. How something appears can leave a lasting impression. In a day where many books are actually judged by their covers, Crossway has taken notice and created the ESV Illuminated Bible, Art Journaling Addition. It truly has a beautiful cover, but there’s much more to it than that.

I set out to be more of a reader this year and I think I read more books in one year than I ever have. Having completed 30 books this year, I figured I’d do the popular thing and put out my top 10.
I first became aware of John Maxwell when I was in high school. I happened to be at a student leadership conference hearing from one of the vice presidents of Chick-Fil-A and he challenged us to read a particular book by Maxwell and promised that if we did, we could email him and he would reward us with $100.
This book may be the best book I will read this year. At 300 pages in small type, it’s intimidating. Don’t let that discourage you. It is so worth your time and effort.
Many Christians would do well to read and be challenged by the majority of the book. However, I wish the latter part of the book came with a warning label.
