5 Things to Pray for Your Kids by Melissa B. Kruger: A Book Review

Melissa B. Kruger and The Good Book Company have teamed up to provide an amazing resource for parents called 5 Things to Pray for Your Kids. Melissa herself is a mother of three and serves as the Director of Women’s Content for The Gospel Coalition. Her book contains 21 subjects containing five prayers each all based on Scripture.

The first thing that stood out to me about this book is that is much more a prayer guide than a book. Each section has lines for you to write specific requests, concerns, thoughts, and situations for your child or children. Also, as previously stated, this book is filled with Scripture. You are not just praying “good ideas” for your kids, but you will be praying the Bible. Each point also has a little commentary along with it that aids in explanation and understanding. 

This book is short and simple, but it is amazing. I could easily see a parent having a separate book for each child. I could also see them using a new copy in different phases of life as the five things will apply differently in childhood, teen years, college, and adult phases of life. This book is really a needed resource for parents and I look forward to using it to help me pray for my own children. 

I don’t think there is anything more powerful than praying Scripture. God’s words are perfect so to use them in prayer gives us confidence as we talk to our Lord. As parents, we need to be praying for our children daily. Life can be difficult and God is the One who we need to help us navigate it. We must pray for our children and Melissa B. Kruger has given us such a helpful resource in 5 Things to Pray for Your Kids.
