Well, howdy and hallelujah! Welcome to the Not Another Book and Bible Review Channel. My name is Cam Hyde, and I'm here to bring you unorthodox book and Bible reviews. Today, we’re taking a look at The Daily Liturgy Devotional from Crossway: 40 Days of Worship and Prayer by Douglas Sean O’Donnell.
I’ve got the book right here—a beautiful hardcover. As you can see, it has a navy cover, a built-in bookmark, and a beige interior paper liner. It also comes with a slipcover that has a description on the back. Douglas O’Donnell, the author, is the Senior Vice President of Bible Editorial at Crossway. So, this is a Crossway publication, and it’s designed to aid your devotional life.
Opening the book, you'll find it structured around the ACTS model of prayer: Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Supplication. It goes a bit further by including a prayer for illumination, scripture reading (with text included), a short commentary, prayer prompts, a memory verse, and even a song—complete with music notes!
This book is a fantastic resource for daily worship. Whether or not you attend a liturgical church, you might find yourself enjoying some liturgy in your personal time. Crossway has been putting out several resources like this, and they’re excellent. The devotional is designed for 40 days, but you can easily start over once you’re done. Each day will feel fresh again, especially if, like me, you might not remember every detail from the beginning by the time you reach the end!
While this devotional includes scripture, it’s meant to complement, not replace, your daily Bible reading. I’ll include a link in the show notes so you can pick up your copy in either hardcover or digital format. It’s a great aid for daily devotion, and for anyone interested in liturgy or looking to explore it more deeply.
Until next time!
