Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I mostly write about Christian Living, but I enjoy the Kentucky Wildcats, New Orleans Saints, and a good cup of coffee.

My wife and I have experienced miscarriage. It is so difficult and so hard. Unfortunately, many people don’t talk about it so it can also feel so lonely. We’ve chosen to be vocal about our miscarriage because God can bring beauty out of our brokenness. Because we’ve shared, people contact us to talk when it happens to them. God has used this as a ministry in our lives and we are grateful he redeems the broken things of this world.

When I saw Abbey Wedgeworth had written a devotional style book on miscarriage I knew I had to review it. I will say up front that this is such a valuable resource. It is needed and it is important. I imagine it will be a resource we buy and give to many couples. It is a resource that brought me to tears while reading it because I feel the pain of the writers as they share their vulnerability with the readers.

Held: 31 Biblical Reflections on God’s Comfort and Care in the Sorrow of Miscarriage is set up like a hardcover Moleskine journal. It’s grey with a yellow elastic band that holds it closed. It also has a yellow satin ribbon bookmark. It’s beautifully designed and meant to be used.

Inside, you’ll find 31 devotion style entries. Abbey writes in such a way that I can easily connect. I can hear the same things my wife and I talked through and struggled with when we experienced our miscarriage. She is so relatable and she keeps pointing the reader back to Jesus—our only true hope.

At the end of each devotion there’s a section for Scripture reading, questions to reflect on, an action response to take, and a blank area to journal. I love that a journaling section was included and I think this will a useful feature for processing what has been read and thought through.

There are also nine testimonies in here from those who have experienced miscarriage. There are stories from names you may recognize such as Kristie Anyabwile and Courtney Reissig. Being a man, I highly valued that Eric Schumacher was included. Miscarriage is incredibly personal to women, but husbands feel it too. There are few resources for men on this subject and I love that a man’s story was included in this book.

This is such an important book. I’m grateful that Abbey Wedgeworth wrote it. I’m grate that The Good Book Company published it. If you know someone who has experienced miscarriage, get this book for them. I promise it will be a blessing.
