Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I mostly write about Christian Living, but I enjoy the Kentucky Wildcats, New Orleans Saints, and a good cup of coffee.

Where is Justice?

Where is Justice?

We're living in a time where justice is a hot topic. People are crying out for justice for wrongs they perceive as having been done by others. They want it here and they want it now. Yet there are all kinds of injustices that don't even get talked about. There are people in other countries who don't have access to clean water while many of us use tons of it just to bathe or wash our dishes. There are people who don't have a Bible in their language while we English speakers have an abundance of translations. Even more so, there are some people who have never even heard the gospel at all and have no idea that a Savior has come to offer them the most incredible gift ever. Where is the justice in all of this?

In Chapter 14 of "Knowing God", Packer speaks of God as Judge. He is not a judge like we're used to though. He's far better than the judges that we see in our world. He is the Judge who will execute perfect justice. He upholds the law perfectly because he is both Lawgiver and the Judge (141). He is the perfect embodiment of what is good and right so he judges rightly. He judges with wisdom and according to truth (142). Finally, he has the power to execute his sentences so his will is accomplished. Perfect justice will be accomplished by the perfect Judge.

If we know ourselves well then this should terrify us. We deserve his justice and punishment. However, there is good news. Packer says, "The New Testament answer is: Call on the coming judge to be your present Savior. As Judge, he is the law, but as Savior he is the gospel." Jesus is both Savior and Judge and the Savior has made the sacrifice so we could be set free. One day perfect justice will be executed, but may we never tire of praising God for sending the Savior who took on the sentence that should have been placed on sinners like you and me.
