The LSB Handy Size 5 Solas Edition
The Legacy Standard Bible seems to be a translation that I can’t help but love. I’ve completely read through it and I love many of the translation choices and features. I’m always excited when new editions are releasing and I am especially excited about the edition I’m reviewing today.
The LSB Handy Size 5 Solas Edition is the most beautiful hardcover I’ve ever seen. Everything was done right on this Bible and while you’ll want to use it, it also feels like a collectors item. This Bible is a show stopper and I’ll say from the outset that I’d highly recommend picking one up.
This is a black faux leather over board hardcover. The faux leather feels great and it feels like real leather. There is so much detail on the cover. There’s an intricate perimeter design stamped into the front cover. “Holy Bible” is stamped in gold foil on the front cover in a very interesting font. Blind stamped below is the LSB logo.
The spine is beautiful. The five solas are stamped in gold with ornate gold bars dividing them. They really do make the spine of this Bible a show stopper. Many rebinders have been doing something like this for awhile, but I love to see an actual publisher going this route and creating something so beautiful and meaningful to many.
They didn’t hold back on this Bible. The page edges are a red under gold art gilt, which typically is only reserved for goatskin Bibles. I love they did it on a hardcover. Even more so, the Bible features three double-sided satin Berisford ribbons, which also are typically only found on premium Bibles. The ribbons are black, gold, and red. I would have loved to have seen wider ribbons used, but these are still really nice!
Inside is a white, paper paste down liner. Once again, I would have loved to see a black vinyl liner here, but I imagine some choices had to be made to keep the price down. I’m still very impressed with the stamping, ribbons, and page edges so I can accept a paper liner.
They also use incredible paper in this Bible. This paper is a high quality 32 gsm French-milled paper. Once again, this paper is not typical for a hardcover and much nicer than what you would typically find in any other hardcover on the market.
The page layout is something I love. I love a single column verse-by-verse typeset and that is exactly what you will find in this Bible. The type is a 9.5 and there is a one inch outer margin for notes. Red accents are throughout the Bible for book titles, chapter numbers, and page headers and numbers. A final nice touch is the dot matrix paper in the back for notes. There are 46 pages and this is a really great feature.
I have very high praise for this Bible. It’s the nicest hardcover I’ve seen and I think the LSB is a great translation. I recommend picking one up because I truly believe you won’t get a nicer Bible for this price.
