Biblical Theology: A Canonical, Thematic, and Ethical Approach

I love Biblical Theology. It’s a discipline I’ve become pretty passionate about. I think it helps us see the Bible more clearly and understand it more fully. I’ve been working to get my hands on more and more biblical theology resources. I was really excited to check out this new Biblical Theology by Andreas Kostenberger and Gregory Goswell offered by Crossway.

This book is massive! It’s definitely a resource you’re more likely to utilize in the study of Scripture than read straight through. I believe you’ll also find it immensely helpful. The first 63 pages alone give a treatment on the discipline of Biblical Theology as well as it’s usefulness and relation to ethics. I’m not sure this was totally necessary as there are whole books dedicated to what Biblical Theology is, but it’s handy if you’re looking for an all-in-one resource.

We then get a book-by-book treatment of biblical theological themes, ethics, and it’s relation to the rest of the story line of Scripture. There is so much here! You get a treasure trove of wealth for study of Scripture. It’s a resource you’ll truly return to time and time again. The conclusion of this book is also quite helpful as it includes themes you can study such as God’s kindness, the cross, covenant, and many more. Ethics also gets another thorough treatment by subject such as gratitude, wise living, hope, and more.

As I said, this is a massive work, but it’s one you’re going to want in your library because it is so useful. I believe you’ll pick it up time and time again.
