Over the weekend, my family and I went to a nice, little town in Tennessee for a birthday celebration. It wasn’t a perfect trip, but no trip ever is. We had a good time. We visited a pumpkin patch and ate a lot of good food. We stayed in a really nice house. Naturally, we documented all of this with pictures and several of them ended up on Instagram….
I just recently mowed my lawn. You’re probably thinking, “Big deal. You have to do that.” When I’m done mowing the lawn, I like to look out over the yard and see the even-cut, short grass and it makes me feel accomplished. It makes me feel good. My yard that was once a mess now looks good and well cared for. It is just a lawn, but I like knowing that I made it look good.
For a Student Pastor, camp is kind of like the Super Bowl. To find a camp you actually look forward to is kind of like winning the jackpot. Last year, we went to Crossings Cedarmore and the students not only loved it, but I loved it. I actually looked forward to going back this year. I had plans. I had dreams. I had aspirations. I was pumped up!
When it comes to blogging, I feel like I've been in a dry spell lately. The ideas haven't been easily flowing. I have to stop and think about topics and diligently think to try and come up with something. Life has been really busy and finding time to write and read has been hard to do. Sometimes it would feel easier to just hang it up.
Life on earth is a gift. It can be such a good gift at times that we lose focus on our true treasure. We can get caught up in relationships, the things of the world, and our own agenda. These things, while good blessings, are not to be our true focus. Jesus is our treasure.
Two weeks ago we talked about embracing the awkward when it comes to discipling your kids, especially if they’re older and you’ve never done it before. Last week we talked about having spiritual conversations and using teachable moments. Those things can at times feel awkward enough, but this week we want to really embrace it—and I think this a must. As a parent, you need to love your kids enough to…
Living in the Bible belt, this books title immediately grabbed me. There is a lot of Cultural Christianity here. Ministry is really hard because most people would tell you they are saved. That is why chapter one of this book is immediately grabbing for me—Help Them Get Lost. Yes, many people in the area I live need help getting lost so they know that they need to be found. If you’re like me, The Unsaved Christian by Dean Inserra may be just the book you’ve been looking for…

I used to like to run. Currently, I'm out of shape and I hate running, but I am trying to make myself do it. When I am running I have one thing on my mind—the end. I want to be done. I am thinking constantly about it being over. From the beginning, I have the end in mind…
Lately, my prayers have been more like having conversations with God. When I say that, I imagine it peaks your interest. We’d all like to converse with God…
I saw a video the other day advocating that parents skip church on some Sunday mornings to go and have church with their kids in some location like the park or by the lake. The guy was arguing that a.) the church is a people and not a place and b.) that parents should be the primary ones teaching their kids about God
My two year old daughter is so full of energy that by the time bedtime hits (7:30 pm) I am ready to crumple into bed and pass out myself…
