Meditate, Gaze, and Wonder at the Majesty of God
Lately, I have been thinking about day to day life and the sovereignty of God. I'm on year 31 of my life and God has kept me safe by in large. When I drive in a metal box down the interstate somewhere between 75-80 miles per hour with other metal boxes all around me and I arrive to my destination safely, that is reason for amazement. When I go thousands of miles somewhere in a metal tube that logically has no business being in the air, that is reason for wonder.
I often get in these habitual rhythms in life and fail to see the majesty of God in it all. Daily for 31 years He has held me, kept me, and moved me forward. Some of those days have been harder than others and many of those days were spent not knowing Him or being conscious of Him at all. Even still, He was there. Even still, He did not wipe me off the planet, which would have been the totally just and righteous thing for Him to do.
How well would it be for our hearts to meditate more consistently on the awesomeness of God? How wonderful for our souls would it be for us to stop daily and marvel at Him? Day in and day out He preserves us in simple ways. He preserves the ones we hold dear. He blesses us in more ways than we can thank Him for. He should be the reason for our joy and hope. We should find all contentment in Him.
God gave us everything in Christ. When we were dead in our sin and doomed to eternal separation apart from the Creator we were made to be with, God sent His only Son to die in our place and make us alive restoring our relationship to Him. As Christians, this fact alone should cause us to rejoice. If this was the only fact we had, it would be enough to be in wonder at each and every day of our lives. We deserved eternal punishment, God saved us instead. Wow...
Let's be a people of joy. Let's fix our eyes on the only One who can give true joy. Let's take intentional time meditate, gaze, and wonder at the majesty of God.
