Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I mostly write about Christian Living, but I enjoy the Kentucky Wildcats, New Orleans Saints, and a good cup of coffee.

Sunday Struggles

Sunday Struggles

Satan hates Sundays. I'm convinced of it. Sunday is what we Christians refer to as the Lord's Day. Why wouldn't satan hate a day that is all about the Lord? He absolutely despises God's people gathering as God's place to sing God's praise. Sunday is the sweetest day of the week, but often for me feels like one of the hardest days of the week.

With a one and a half year old, it often feels like an accomplishment just making it to church many Sundays. Our child sticks to a pretty good sleep schedule where she goes to bed at eight and wakes up at seven. My wife and I recently decided to start getting up earlier on Sunday to have our own quiet time and make the morning easier before Charis wakes up. Sounds like a good plan, right?

Just this last Sunday, my daughter decides to buck her usual schedule and wake up early! I'm crying out, "God don't you want us to spend time focused on You!? Why would you allow her to do this?" It really wouldn't have been that bad though, except it seemed like nothing would satisfy her. Everything that happened was occasion for a monumental meltdown. This tiny tot can bring two adults to their knees... in style. By the time I got to church, I already felt exhausted.

I know this story hits home with many parents. Maybe you're not even a parent, but it feels like things just manage to go wrong on Sundays. Perhaps you get in a fight with your spouse or your parents, your pet dies, or you slept miserably the night before. I get it. I'm with you. Satan hates Sundays.

My encouragement is to keep pressing in and keep pressing on. The gathering of God's people as His church is our earthly picture of heaven. It's our foretaste of the sweetness of eternity. It's worth it to push through. God deserves it. Sunday is His day and it's about Him. We go to declare the majesty of our great Redeemer. We go to extol His infinite worth and declare His greatness. We go for the joy of worshiping the One who gave it all for His people.
