Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I mostly write about Christian Living, but I enjoy the Kentucky Wildcats, New Orleans Saints, and a good cup of coffee.

As a graduate of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, I consider Dr. R. Albert Mohler, Jr. (our seminary president) a very wise man. I always appreciate his application of a biblical worldview to current events on his podcast called The Briefing and I take the opportunities I can to glean from his wisdom in the things he writes. That’s why I was excited to have the opportunity to review his new commentary Acts 13-28 For You from The Good Book Company.

Dr. Mohler’s latest contribution is the newest installment in the God’s Word For You series, which is written for people of every age and stage whether a seeker, new believer, teacher, or pastor. This series is flexible and helpful. You can read this as a book, use it as a daily devotional, or use it as an aid to help you preach or teach God’s Word. The God’s Word For You series is an incredible resource for the church.

Dr. Mohler’s latest contribution is no exception. Dr. Mohler reminds the reader in his introduction, “[Acts] is the story of the church—the church that Jesus Christ established and to which he promised that the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Thus, this is the story that now continues in your church” (12). Largely, Acts is faith in action and a book that all Christians would do well to study.

I love several things about this book and this series. First, I love the way Dr. Mohler applies the history of Acts to our modern time. He shows that what the church faced then, we should still expect in some form today. Given that this is a newer commentary, I also love that it speaks to our current age. Dr. Mohler isn’t speaking to people and events that existed 10 or 20 years ago. He’s speaking to our culture now.

Third, I appreciate that this isn’t a technical commentary that analyzes structures of the text, but instead it’s practical and applicable. This means it truly can be devotional as well as helpful to those who preach and teach. Lastly, I love that this book includes reflection questions at the end of each section. These questions help you apply the text directly to you.

The God’s Word for You series has quickly become one of my favorites. The practicality combined with the high quality authors that The Good Book Company brings to this series is rarely matched. If you’re looking for a resource to help you dive deeper into God’s Word then I heartily recommend this series.

You can buy Acts 13-28 For You on Amazon.
