Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I mostly write about Christian Living, but I enjoy the Kentucky Wildcats, New Orleans Saints, and a good cup of coffee.

The CSB Reader's Five-Volume Collection Review

I recently discussed the merits of a Reader’s Bible. It truly is an enjoyable experience to get rid of the chapters, verse numbers, and footnotes and immerse yourself in the text for an undistracted reading experience. However, what I didn’t touch on is the way you can squeeze even more enjoyment out of the experience. That’s why I’m excited to share with you today about Holman’s new Christian Standard Bible Five-Volume Reader’s Bible.

The CSB Five-Volume Set is everything you love about the Single-Volume Reader’s Bible, but better. What makes it better? I’m glad you asked.

This set has broken the Bible up into five categories: The Pentateuch (Genesis-Deuteronomy), The Historical Books (Joshua-Esther), The Writings/Poetry (Job-Song of Songs), The Prophets (Isaiah-Malachi), and The New Testament. By doing this, each volume has a larger font and thicker paper. This makes a Reader’s Bible even more reader friendly. The words are easy to see and the paper has little to no ghosting. Reading one of these volumes is an absolute pleasure.

The Five-Volume Set comes in a cardboard slipcase. Each book is cloth over board in a nice beige color. The cover of each volume is plain except for small, gold squares in the bottom right hand corner. The number of squares indicates which volume you’re holding. I thought this was a nice touch. The spine has three raised ribs with gold lettering as well as the squares once again indicating which volume is which. It also has each category or genre labeled on the spine. The page edges are white and each volume has a tan bookmark. The books themselves have smyth-sewn, reinforced binding.

Opening the cover will reveal an attractive, patterned paste-down liner. The text itself is single-column and 12 point font. There is generous margin on all sides. The text appears to be line-matched as well. Blue accents compliment the text just like in the single-volume CSB Reader’s Bible. Each chapter is set off by a blue drop cap that begins the paragraph. The book and chapter numbers are in the bottom, outer corner of each page and are also in blue. I’m not sure of the thickness of each page, but they are nice and thick and a joy to read from.

This is a really nice edition to the CSB line. If you’d like to check out a Reader’s Bible and have the money to invest, I’d recommend you get a multi-volume set like this one. The reading experience is second to none. You’re probably not going to carry one of these volumes to church, but you will certainly enjoy reading from it at home or in your office. Holman has created a really nice Five-Volume Reader’s Bible that not only is a pleasure to read, but also looks very attractive on your shelf.

You can pick up the CSB Five-Volume Reader’s Bible on Amazon (affiliate) or from Lifeway.

Disclaimer: I received a copy of this Bible from Holman in exchange for a fair and honest review.
