Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I mostly write about Christian Living, but I enjoy the Kentucky Wildcats, New Orleans Saints, and a good cup of coffee.

Repeat the Sounding Joy: A New Advent Devotion from Christopher Ash

Growing up, I never really knew what Advent was apart from all the fun calendars you could open, but as I got older and learned the meaning of Advent and started participating in it with my own family, it has become really meaningful to me. Advent means “coming” and we take all 24 days leading to Christmas day to intentionally focus on the coming Christ as a baby. I’ve found this intentional focus helps me keep the true meaning of Christmas at the forefront of the season and it increases my joy in Christ.

The Advent devotional I’ll be using this season is by Christopher Ash. It’s called Repeat the Sounding Joy. It focuses on one thought from Luke 1 - 2 each day. Ash says, “This book is written to help you set your mind on Christmas—not the day to come in two or three weeks but that glorious night in Bethlehem two thousand years ago.”

I love Ash’s focus for the book. Each day includes the Scripture passage, a short devotion, a song to sing, a prayer to pray, and space to journal. I especially found the space for journaling to be a unique feature of this Advent devotional. This would be a great book to use in family worship as Ash includes all the elements that families typically do during that time. It would also be great as a personal devotional.

I think you will enjoy this work from Ash no matter if your single or have a large family. I love having a new devotional to use during this season and I look forward to taking my family through Repeat the Sounding Joy. May we all find ourselves treasuring Christ more at the end of this Advent season and anticipating his coming again.
