Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I mostly write about Christian Living, but I enjoy the Kentucky Wildcats, New Orleans Saints, and a good cup of coffee.

I wish I owned every book in the God’s Word For You series. It is excellent and helpful commentary and each one I’ve explored has proven valuable. I am especially excited about Psalms For You. The Psalms are so useful and helpful for the life of the believer. Learning to read and understand them well is valuable.

Psalms for You is not a comprehensive examination of every Psalm. That would take many volumes. Instead, author Christopher Ash says, "I have chosen some well-known psalms; for it is our task to learn to pray them too" (12). He goes on to say, "It will be frustrating to walk quickly past so many psalms; and yet my prayer is that by the end of our tour you will feel better equipped to explore those we passed by; and that you will deeply desire to make all the psalms your prayers, again and again and again, for the rest of your life, and to lead others to do so" (12).

Ash does tackle many psalms however. If you were wondering, he goes through 1, 2, 11, 20, 22, 23, 31, 40, 42-44, 57, 59, 65, 67, 45, 72, 73, 74, 84, 87, 90, 91, 95, 107, 109, 110, 122, 126-128, 137, 139, 145, and 148. He definitely hits a broad scope and I think any reader and student of the Psalms should be pleased with his choices and how many he includes.

One thing I love about this book that Ash does over and over again is take the reader to Christ. He shows how the Psalms lead us to Christ and how many are fulfilled in him. This gives the Psalms greater clarity, impact, and causes us to want to sing them all the more. Ash really does the reader a service with these applications.

I love the God's Word for You series especially because of the versatility of these books. They can be used devotionally, as a sermon help, and to lead a Bible study. They really are a great tool. Each chapter has questions for reflection at the end, which are incredibly helpful.

Every book I've used in this series is worth the price of admission. The Psalms are so useful in the life of the believer and so I'd highly encourage you to pick up this book. Ash writes well and points us to Christ over and over again while helping us know, love, and understand the Psalms even more.
