Be Thou My Vision Westminster Books Exclusive Edition

I knew corporate worship could be liturgical, but I had never considered that I could incorporate liturgical worship into my private, daily worship. Not only that, but family worship can also be liturgical. Liturgies are both beautiful and intentional. They are designed to purposefully guide the worshiper in an intentional way that keeps Christ at the center. When it comes to the word “liturgy,” you may find yourself asking, “Where do I even begin?” Jonathan Gibson has laid the framework in his new 31 day devotion called Be Thou My Vision. Even better, Westminster Books has an exclusive edition in brown cowhide leather that I’ll be reviewing today. 

The content of this book is excellent, but I must start out reviewing the design of the book itself. It is simply beautiful and can only be had at Westminster Books. It comes in a green slipcase just like the version that can be had at Crossway, but this is elegantly bound in brown cowhide, which looks great. The grain of the leather is pebbly. There are four spine hubs. The words and logos on the spine are stamped in gold. 

With even more detail, there are green head and tail bands. To my surprise there are three ribbon markers! I can’t believe they decided to include so many, but that’s such a great feature. Each is a different color—olive green, red, and a cream color. They really add an extra level of elegance to this book.

Inside is a paste down brown vinyl liner. I also love the paper and font size in this book. The paper is a thick, cream color that is very opaque. The font size is nice and large. There is a lot of margin room if you want to take notes or write your own prayers. There are also several blank pages dispersed throughout that you could use how you’d like. It’s clear that this is a book meant to be used over and over again. 

Content wise, this book has 31 days of liturgical devotions. This certainly isn’t a replacement for your daily time in Scripture, but it’s meant to supplement it and take you deeper. Each day will include prayers, pieces of Scripture, songs to sing, creeds, and catechisms. These liturgies are designed to lead you through the gospel and to the throne of grace. The back includes five Appendixes including catechisms, a Bible reading plan, and other features.

I think anyone who picks up this book and uses it will find it extremely valuable to their personal time with the Lord. I will go ahead and also say that you’re going to want this cowhide edition from Westminster Books. It’s built to last a lifetime as well as look incredible too. I think this is a resource I will come back to time and time again and I highly recommend it.
