The Puritan Classics Box Set
I’m once again partnering with my good friends at Westminster Books to bring you a really exciting review today. The Puritans have written works that contain a treasure trove of information. Vast riches can be found within their pages. Countless people have benefited greatly from their works. For the longest time, these have come in the form of Puritan Paperbacks, but now many of the classic works of the Puritans have been bound in beautiful hardcover books and placed in a box set. I’ll go ahead and say straight up that if you value Puritan literature, you’re going to want this box set.
This box set is from Banner of Truth and it comes in a beautiful royal blue fabric box with gold foil printing on each end of a logo that says Puritan Classics. Each book in the set is hardcover with gold foil printing on the front and spine. The cover of the book has the author name, Puritan Classics logo, and the book title. The spine has the author name, book title, and Banner of Truth logo and name at the bottom. Each book also has blue and white head and tail bands along with a double-sided satin ribbon bookmark. The books are also Smyth-sewn meaning they will last you for years to come. These are really attractive and very well done.
This is a 10 volume set, but includes 15 titles meaning that some volumes contain more than one book. The titles included are:
The Art of Prophesying — William Perkins
The Bruised Reed — Richard Sibbes
The Letters of Samuel Rutherford — Samuel Rutherford
The Loveliness of Christ — Samuel Rutherford
A Lifting Up for the Downcast — William Bridge
The Rare Jewel of Christian Contentment — Jeremiah Burroughs
Precious Remedies Against Satan’s Devices — Thomas Brooks
The Reformed Pastor — Richard Baxter
The Godly Man’s Picture Drawn with a Scripture Pencil — Thomas Watson
The Doctrine of Repentance — Thomas Watson
All Things For Good — Thomas Watson
The Mystery of Providence — John Flavel
Facing Grief — John Flavel
A Sure Guide to Heaven — Joseph Alleine
Prayer — John Bunyan
Another major stand out feature of these books is the paper. It’s a cream color and very opaque. There is no bleed through from the other side of the page. The font is nice and dark, spaced well, and makes these books a joy to read.
I’ve had several Puritan Paperbacks and trust me when I tell you that these are on a whole different level. Included with the box set is a 32 page booklet introduction from Sinclair Ferguson. If you are a fan of the Puritan works then you are going to want this timeless edition for your library. It is extremely high quality and will be a statement piece on your shelf. The Puritan works have stood the test of time so why wouldn’t you want them bound in a way that will stand the test of time as well? I recommend heading to Westminster Books and picking up a set for yourself!
Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this box set from Westminster Books in exchange for a fair and honest review.
