Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I mostly write about Christian Living, but I enjoy the Kentucky Wildcats, New Orleans Saints, and a good cup of coffee.

The Crossway Artist Series Single Column Journaling Bibles

The Crossway Artist Series Single Column Journaling Bibles

When it comes to Bibles and design, I think it’s hard to beat Crossway in the innovative category. They do some different things than other publishers and take some risks. I’ve long been a fan of their Single Column Journaling Bibles and they’ve decided to take it up a notch with the new Artist Series.

The Artist Series is a Single Column Journaling Bible with cover—and in some cases—liner art done by a specific artist. There are six artists that are featured with six different Bibles. Today, I’m showing you Bibles designed by Peter Voth and Joshua Noom.

I have been familiar with and a big fan of Voth’s work for quite some time. Noom was unknown to me. Each Bible comes with a slipcover with a short artist bio on the back. They also include a card inside numbering your Bible and a short explanation from the artist about their work. All of these are such nice details making this truly a personal work from the artist to you.

All of these Bibles are hardcover. Noom’s design is called “The Lion and the Lamb”. I love the blend of reflective and matte printing. Voth’s is called “Sanctus”. True to Peter Voth artistry, the design is intricate and detailed. The pictures do far more to show you these than I can describe. Unlike Noom’s, Voth also designed his inside liner and end sheets. Both Bibles make you want to turn them over in your hands and just stare at them. Honestly, these are so beautiful that I don’t want to use them, but just display them. Each detail has been thought of down to the corners. You’ll notice that Voth’s corners are square while Noom’s are rounded.

Inside you’ll find the standard Single Column Journaling Bible layout from Crossway. I do prefer the single column as it allows you to write beside the text you’re referencing. The font size is a 7.5 and this is one thing I wish Crossway would change. It’s such a small font that it can be hard to read when my eyes are tired. I wish they’d bump it to an 8 or 8.5. They do offer a Large Print Single Column Journaling Bible and I’d love to see them do the Artist Series with that Bible. The paper in the Journaling Bibles is great. It’s a nice cream color with some minimal ghosting.

In the back, you’ll find a table of weights and measures and a Bible in a year reading plan. This is just enough when it comes to extras in this Bible. I am thankful Crossway decided to focus on journaling and not include maps or other superfluous things.

As I said, these Bibles are art. You’ll be hard pressed to want to write in it. God’s Word is truly precious and deserves to both be read and displayed. I love the Artist Series and have no doubt that you’ll find at least one or two in the series that you really love as well!
