Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I mostly write about Christian Living, but I enjoy the Kentucky Wildcats, New Orleans Saints, and a good cup of coffee.

The NASB 2020 Large Print Compact Bible

The NASB 2020 Large Print Compact Bible

The NASB 2020 is still fairly new and there aren’t many editions available. But Lockman has released what I think will be one of my favorite editions no matter how many come out after. This edition is both portable, but very readable. It’s also a single column, which makes it a home run in my opinion. Let’s check it out.

I’m reviewing the black genuine leather edition. It comes with a slipcover. The genuine leather is stiff, but has a great grain. It also has a great feeling texture on the hand. Printed in gold on the spine are the words, “Holy Bible”, “NEW AMERICAN STANDARD BIBLE 2020”, “LARGE PRINT”, “NASB”, and “Lockman Foundation”. There are also five sets of double gold bars printed on the spine. I’m unsure why they felt the need to include “LARGE PRINT” and feel like it could have been left out to make the spine less busy.

The page edges are a gold gilt and this Bible has two single sided satin ribbons. One is red and the other is black. They are narrow, but I would have loved to have seen them wider. There’s a black, paste down vinyl liner on the inside. This Bible is stiff. It doesn’t come close to laying flat toward the beginning. That doesn’t bother me as much because this feels like a Bible you hold in your hands and take with you places.

I will say the paper is quite thin and has some significant ghosting. It also has that signature Lockman blue tint. The line matching of the text really helps make this Bible more readable. This is a single column layout with textual notes across the bottom of the page. Interestingly, this Bible is in paragraph format, but poetry is in a verse by verse setting with new paragraphs being indicated by a pilcrow. The font is a generous nine point making this a large print as indicated. The text size is very readable. Words of Christ are in black. My only critique is line spacing. The lines are very close together and the paragraphs are wide meaning you really have to focus to keep your place in the text.

The back features introductions for each book. There are no maps or any extras. I really like this simplicity because I think it keeps the Bible portable and it is a compact Bible so portability is it’s purpose.

I really like this edition of the NASB 2020 and if you’re a single column fan like me then you’ll want to pick one of these up. The font is a great size so you could happily use this as a travel or daily Bible. It is a welcome addition to the NASB 2020 lineup.

You can pick up your copy of the NASB 2020 Large Print Compact on Amazon. (affiliate)

Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this Bible from Lockman in exchange for a fair and honest review.
