Into His Presence by Tim Chester

I love prayer books. I think it is because I always need more help with prayer. Several books of Puritan prayers have been released and every time I see a new one I want to check it out. The latest offering is called Into His Presence and it has been edited and arranged by Tim Chester and published by The Good Book Company. As soon as I saw it I knew it was a must have.

This book is very well done. It’s a hardcover, which I like. Hardcovers mean you can really use a book. You can throw it in your bag and take it with you. A prayer book like this is meant to be used. It also includes a blue ribbon bookmark, which is a nice touch and useful feature. Even more useful is how this book is arranged. Prayers are arranged topically so you can look at the index and find the type of prayer you’re looking for. Categories include, but are not limited to prayers of praise, prayers of gratitude, prayers of confession, prayers for times of anxiety, etc.

A couple of very cool features are in the back of the book. Chester has included a brief biography from each person he’s included in the book. I really like this touch as you can learn more about the people whose prayers you are reading. He also includes the sources, which means you can dive deeper into their work if a prayer really resonates with you. I think these little features make this book even more useful.

I’m here for all the Puritan prayer books. If they keep releasing them then I will keep buying them. They are devotional and beneficial. In a time of major distraction, these prayers help us stop and focus on the God who deserves our attention.
