Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I mostly write about Christian Living, but I enjoy the Kentucky Wildcats, New Orleans Saints, and a good cup of coffee.

The NASB Prime 2020 Reference Bible

The NASB Prime 2020 Reference Bible

The NASB 2020 is still a fairly new translation. It doesn’t have nearly as many editions to choose from as more established translations such as the NASB 95, ESV, NKJV, etc. However, if you find yourself loving the NASB 2020, I think the edition I’m reviewing today is the best one out there. Let’s take a look at why I think the NASB 2020 Prime Reference edition from Lockman is the best one out there.

I have been quite impressed by these Prime editions so far and the Reference is no exception. I do think the box could use a bit of a refresh, but once you open the box, you’ll find a premium Bible wrapped in black cardstock with a gold seal. I always love the how premium Bibles come packaged. You know you’re getting something special.

The Bible I’m reviewing is a black goatskin (it also comes in brown). The goatskin has a nice grain. It isn’t as floppy as some, but it does stay open from Genesis to the maps. I love that Lockman has been putting a generous yapp on these Bibles. It’s a semi yapp that will look excellent with more training.

The spine has five raised hubs and in gold are the words “Holy Bible”, “NEW AMERICAN STANDARD BIBLE 2020”, “NASB”, and “Lockman Foundation”. The Bible also comes with two long and wide satin ribbons. One is red and the other is black. These ribbons are beautiful and in my opinion are the perfect width and length. There are black head and tail bands. This Bible also features a great looking red under gold art gilt.

Inside, the Bible has a black calfskin liner. There’s a gold perimeter gilt line. There are also black vinyl end sheets. The Bible is edge-lined and Smyth-sewn for durability. This Bible also features an abundance of family record pages.

The paper is fantastic. It’s a 33 gsm that looks nice and opaque. There is slight ghosting, but with the text being linematched, there’s really nothing to be concerned about. I really like the feel of this paper. It seems very easy to grab and turn from page to page.

The text layout is a double column paragraph style. Minimum translation notes are at the bottom of the page with cross references being under those. The type size is a 9.5 and this is a black letter edition.

I’m usually a single column guy, but I just love the layout of this Bible. The font size is good and the references are laid out incredibly well at the bottom of this Bible. As far as the new Prime Editions from Lockman go, this one is my favorite so far.

In the back you’ll find a few extra features. There’s a topical index, book introductions, a year long Bible reading plan, tables featuring the miracles of Jesus and the parables, and color maps.

As I said, this Bible is fantastic. If you’re considering a premium NASB 2020, this is the one to have (at least until the single column verse-by-verse reference comes out)!
