Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I mostly write about Christian Living, but I enjoy the Kentucky Wildcats, New Orleans Saints, and a good cup of coffee.

The NLT Filament Edition in Black LeatherLike

The NLT Filament Edition in Black LeatherLike

This is a first for me. This Bible doesn’t seem to have a name. At least it doesn’t on the box. What strikes me as strange is the box seems like an advertisement for the NLT filament app. It’s a shame that it is kind of nameless because I’ll go ahead and say that if you’re a fan of the NLT then you should own this Bible. Why? I’m glad you asked.

This Bible is almost an exact replica in layout of the coveted NLT Select, which is now out of print. There is a major difference. Let’s get into it.

Sadly, there’s no genuine leather or premium leather edition of this Bible. I’m reviewing the Black Leatherlike, which is still really nice. The cover feels very smooth and has a white and orange cross design on the front, which I really like. The spine has four raised hubs, which I like even more! They give this non premium Bible a more premium feel. There is also simple printing on the spine with the words “HOLY BIBLE” in white sandwiching the words “NEW LIVING TRANSLATION” in orange. It sounds strange, but it really looks good.

This Bible has gold page edges, black head and tail bands, and a thin double-sided satin black bookmark.

Inside is a black vinyl paste down liner with matching end sheets. This Bible is also Smyth-sewn, which makes it more durable and an excellent candidate for a rebind.

Inside you get a black letter text with a 9 point type size. It’s single column and the text looks to be line matched. The outer margins are wide so while this doesn’t have references like the Select, there is plenty of room to write your own references or notes.

They are truly pushing the filament features in this Bible. Unfortunately they put the page numbers in the middle of the page in the outer margin with the filament symbol so you can use their app for study notes and what not. I would have much rather them placed this at the top or bottom of the page to leave a clean margin, but hey, this is still an amazing layout. My other complaint is the text does dip into the gutter on this layout, but it will break in and it’s not a deal breaker for me.

In the back you’ll find the NLT Dictionary/Concordance.

If I’m honest, this is my favorite NLT Bible that’s currently in print. It really is the best layout and even the Leatherlike is done really well. If you’re an NLT fan, I highly recommend checking out this edition.
