Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I mostly write about Christian Living, but I enjoy the Kentucky Wildcats, New Orleans Saints, and a good cup of coffee.

The Legacy Standard Bible Inside Column Reference in Navy Goatskin

The Legacy Standard Bible Inside Column Reference in Navy Goatskin

I’ll state up front that I hadn’t been this excited for a Bible release in a long time. As I’ve written in other posts, I switched to the LSB as my main translation and this Bible was certainly a perk of making that switch. Many consider this the perfect layout and I am included in that number. There was a lot of hype surrounding the release of this Bible. Does it live up to it?

This Bible comes in multiple styles as many Bibles do. You can get the ICR in a hardcover, faux leather, calfskin, or goatskin. I wasn’t sure which I was getting to review because Steadfast decided to do a drawing to select which reviewer got which edition. You can see that unboxing here. I was delighted to receive the navy goatskin edition of this Bible, which was the exact edition I hoped to receive!

Pulling the Bible out of the box reveals a thick Bible that will put you in mind of a study Bible. The Navy goatskin is beautiful. It has a nice grain and feels great to the touch. This Bible also features a nice semi yapp. The spine has five raised ribs and I love that Steadfast does them in a unique way instead of being perfectly spaced. It makes the LSB stand out. In gold are the words, “HOLY BIBLE”, “LEGACY STANDARD BIBLE”, and “STEADFAST BIBLES”.

The page edges have a gold under blue art gilt. There are three wide and long double sided satin ribbons in brown, navy, and cream.

The cover of this Bible is really flexible. There’s a navy calf liner inside with navy vinyl end sheets. Instead of a gold perimeter gilt line, Steadfast has opted for a geometric pattern in gold that puts me in the mind of an arrow pointing left. I actually like it though. It’s something different than usual solid gold line.

The block is the highlight of this Bible! Before I go there however, I must give a bit of warning and I’d be being disingenuous if I didn’t mention this. There have been some problems with the goatskin editions of the ICR. There has been a tendency for the block to begin to separate where the card stock meets the paper. I truly hate there have been issues. However, Steadfast has released a statement regarding it and they have offered a fix if your Bible experiences this. I will link to the statement here. I will also say that I think this Bible is worth that risk because it is what I consider to be a perfect layout.

The paper in this Bible is amazing! It’s 40 gsm. That paired with the font size and layout results in this being a very thick Bible, but it’s meant for real study and is designed that way. To be honest, I’ve carried this Bible back and forth quite a bit and it isn’t too big if you want to have the layout with you where you’re going.

The type size is great. It’s an 11 point and I personally love a bigger type. It’s a single column, verse-by-verse layout. It includes over 95,000 cross references and over 14,000 translation footnotes. Both can be found in the inner margin. Cross references are located at the top and notes are at the bottom. This is where these belong and it truly makes it the perfect layout.

In the back, you’ll find a 90 page concordance and some full color maps.

This really is my dream Bible. Compound that with the fact it can be had even in a hardcover edition and I think Steadfast has hit a home run! I love everything about it and now I’m hoping they make a handy size version!

Pick up your copy of the ICR (cowhide) on Amazon (affiliate) or (goatskin) at the Steadfast website.

Disclaimer: I received a copy of this Bible in exchange for a fair and honest review.
