The NKJV Maclaren Large Print Thinline Reference with Words of Christ in Blue

Thomas Nelson is consistently making beautiful Bibles and this could easily be in my top 3 if not my favorite over all. This Bible has a couple of unique features that I truly love along with a great layout. Let’s talk about what makes this Bible so great.

This one comes in genuine leather. However, it’s a different genuine leather. It puts me in mind of the really nice “top grain leather” of another publisher. It feels nice in the hand and has a great flexibility. The grain is a nice pebbled pattern.

The spine is also beautiful. It has five raised hubs that are outlined with gold gilt lines. On the spine in gold are the words, “HOLY BIBLE”, “NKJV”, and “THOMAS NELSON”. The page edges however are what command attention on this Bible. They are one of the features I really love. They call them gauffered page edges and there’s a beautiful pattern that spreads over all of them. The pictures below are the best way to describe it. It also comes with two wide and long double-sided satin ribbons. One is black and the other is a teal.

The inside features a vinyl liner with vinyl end sheets. the Bible is Smyth-sewn and edge-lined for durability. This is a great feature because many genuine leather Bibles don’t get the edge-lined treatment so shout out to Thomas Nelson for goin above and beyond here!

I’m not sure the gsm of the paper in this one, but I did notice it’s prone to sticking together. Ghosting is minimal and best I can tell, the text is line matched. This is a double column layout with page headings, chapter numbers, subheadings, and reference numbers in teal. The type size is a 10 point in the NKJV Comfort Print. The other fantastic feature of this Bible is that words of Christ are in blue. This is so much nicer than red in my opinion. It reads easier and the ink looks more consistent. I love black letter text, but this certainly is a good compromise over red letter. References are in a single column across the bottom.

The back of this Bible features a concordance along with several full color maps.

This Bible is great! Thomas Nelson pulled out all the stops on a genuine leather Bible! I truly love the Bibles they’re making and the risks they’re taking. It’s working!
