A Liturgy for Daily Worship from Advent to Epiphany
I love liturgy. The order and rhythm of it is beneficial to the soul. I also love Christmas. Advent devotionals changed my life. They helped make my Christmas more meaningful. Like the author, Jonathan Gibson, I have recently found them leaving something to be desired. I want more of Christ. I want to focus on him even more during this season. That’s why I’m excited about Gibson’s new liturgical devotion, O Come, O Come, Emmanuel.
This devotion is beautifully published. It comes in a beautiful red box with ornate gold designs. The book itself is a grey cloth over board hardcover with a gold star on the center of the cover. It has three ribbon bookmarks in green, red, and cream. The paper is a thick cream color that is absolutely gorgeous. This is truly a book you’ll want to use. Even the liner has gorgeous artwork.
Inside, you’ll find content to lead you into a deeper focus on Christ this Christmas season. This is a 40 day liturgical guide starting November 28 and going through January 6. The preface and part 1 of the book help you learn how to use the daily liturgy and explain its formatting. Part 2 is the daily liturgy itself which features a meditation, call to worship, adoration, reading of the law, confession of sin, assurance of pardon, creed, catechism, prayer for illumination, scripture reading, praise, prayer of intercession, the Lord’s prayer, and a benediction. It’s truly well thought out and well designed to increase your focus on Christ.
Three Appendixes are featured at the end. There are tunes for the hymns and Psalms, a reading plan, and an author, hymn, and liturgy index.
This book is incredibly well crafted and will be an invaluable tool during your Christmas season. If you’re looking for something more during your Advent season than just the standard devotion, I highly recommend picking up O Come, O Come, Emmanuel by Jonathan Gibson.
