Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I mostly write about Christian Living, but I enjoy the Kentucky Wildcats, New Orleans Saints, and a good cup of coffee.

The Humble Lamb HIStory in Fox Orange with Fore-Edge Gilt

The Humble Lamb HIStory in Fox Orange with Fore-Edge Gilt

The team over at Humble Lamb keeps taking chances and it keeps working! Every Bible they crank out is amazing in my opinion. They’re going wild with colors, gilt options, and formats. I’m here for it and I hope they keep innovating. When I heard an orange Bible was coming out, I knew I needed to check it out. Oh, it’s also a NASB 2020 you say? Even better! Let’s take a look.

Everything about this Bible makes me do a double take! The box immediately catches your attention with the giant nails on the front. Oh, also my box is orange because I ordered the orange. That’s a super cool trick! When you pull the Bible out, you’re struck by its size. This sucker is small and thick! I don’t know why, but I can’t help but love it. The orange is really unique. It’s a lighter orange in Meritian goatskin, which is soft and has a nice flex to it.

The spine is also striking! There are four raised ribs that are asymmetrical. In black, horizontally, are the words, “THE WORD OF GOD”. I love the horizontal spine look that Humble Lamb is known for. I also love that there’s one rib at the top and three on the bottom. It’s unique, different, and cool.

Also cool is the fore-edge art gilt. Straight on, it’s quite gold, but as you move the edges, you see a black picture revealed. This design features a lot of art involving Jesus and it’s such a cool feature that no one else is really doing. I love it. Just to be clear, you can also choose an orange under gold art gilt if the picture isn’t your thing.

There are three black, double-sided satin ribbons that are nice and wide and seem to be a good length for this size of a Bible. There are also black head and tell bands.

Inside features a black goatskin liner. This is also cool and different because a lot of Bibles do a calfskin liner. Also cool is all the gold accenting. There’s a gold perimeter gilt line as well as gold writing. In the top left corner is the HIStory logo with NEW AMERICAN STANDARD BIBLE underneath. In the bottom left corner is the Humble Lamb logo. This gold really pops.

The Bible is both Smyth-sewn and edge-lined for durability.

This Bible is so unique, I can’t wait to tell you about all the features. It’s printed on 32 GSM Ivory Bible paper. It looks pretty opaque, but there is a little ghosting on the drop caps. It features line-matching to try and help reduce ghosting. It’s a single column layout with an 8.5 font. It features both cross-references and translator notes for the NASB 2020.

Here we get into the especially unique things about this layout. The drop caps are beautiful! They begin each section and they are full color! That is too cool and it really makes it pop. The layout itself is broken into stories. It’s laid out to try and create natural pauses between stories so that the reader can be encouraged in a deeper understanding and appreciation of Scripture. That’s a really unique and cool way to do it! This bible also features the words of Christ in blue. There is also the full set of artwork from Gustave Doré, which I could take or leave if I’m honest. The back also has several full color maps.

Finally, I should mention that this is a first edition of this Bible. That matters because there are a couple of mistakes, which have been known to happen with other publishers’ first editions as well. I personally don’t think they matter and they don’t affect my enjoyment of the Bible. For some though, it does matter so I should mention them. In the beginning where the copyright is located, it’s listed as being the King James Version rather than the NASB. In the Table of Contents, Leviticus is misspelled. Finally, in Revelation two of the art illustrations show up twice. It should be obvious that none of these mistakes affect the actual text of the Bible. This also is a chance you take with having a first edition, but I think it’s often cool to have first editions and it makes these editions collectible. You can see that Humble Lamb actually stamped 1st Print Edition in the back of this one and you won’t get that on any subsequent printings. So you’ve got to evaluate what you value more.

This Bible is just unique all around and I love it! Humble Lamb is truly pushing the envelope with everything they’re doing with their Bibles. They’re making Bold choices and it’s pretty awesome! I think it’s really working. If I was looking for a good NASB 2020 reader, this would be the one. It’s beautifully made and so unique that it’s an instant conversation piece.
