Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I mostly write about Christian Living, but I enjoy the Kentucky Wildcats, New Orleans Saints, and a good cup of coffee.

The NKJV Single-Column Verse-by-Verse Reference Bible

The NKJV Single-Column Verse-by-Verse Reference Bible

This is it. This is the one I’ve been waiting for! The single column verse-by-verse setting is probably my favorite Bible layout. It is crazy to me that it’s not available in certain translations. However, the dominoes are slowly falling and the New King James Version is the next to fall. Finally, we have this layout in the NKJV!

Today I’m reviewing a stunning green edition of this Bible in Leathersoft as well as a brown genuine leather edition. Both Bibles are beautiful, but let me go ahead and get my major complaint out of the way. There’s no Premier Collection of this layout! This, for me, is a major disappointment. Thomas Nelson’s premium Bibles are so good and to leave this layout out of it is a major mistake in my opinion. That being said, let’s dive in.

The green Leathersoft comes in a slip cover while the brown genuine leather comes in a clamshell box. The green Leathersoft is really nice! It’s soft and the green has a kind of heathered look to it. The front cover has “HOLY BIBLE” in gold lettering. The spine has five stamped bars with gold accents around them. In gold are the words, “HOLY BIBLE”, “NKJV”, and the Thomas Nelson logo.

The brown genuine leather Bible feels nice and soft. There’s no visible grain, which puts me in mind of a calfskin. I love that this Bible has five raised hubs with gold accents around them. It certainly gives a more premium feel. This Bible also has in gold, “HOLY BIBLE”, “NKJV”, and the Thomas Nelson logo.

Both of these Bibles feature a really cool design on the page edges. Both have two double-sided satin ribbon bookmarks. The brown features dark brown and red as the colors and the green features a dark green and red. Both of these Bibles are Smyth-sewn for durability.

Inside the genuine leather is a dark brown vinyl paste down liner with matching vinyl end sheets. The green features a lighter green paper liner with a paper presentation page. Both Bibles feature the same paper. I am unsure of the gsm, but it is nice and opaque. The text is line-matched as well.

The inside of these Bibles is the same. The type is a 9 point in the NKJV Comfort Print. It reads quite nicely. This is a single column verse-by-verse layout so each verse starts on a new line. Bold verse numbers indicate the start of a new paragraph. Cross-references and notes are features on an inner column next to the gutter of each page. There is a very small amount of outer margin room. Words of Christ are in red.

The back features a Concordance as well as several full color maps.

All in all, I think this is a great offering from Thomas Nelson. I’d love to see it in the Premier Collection as well, but I’m quite happy to see this layout in the NKJV!
