The ESV Large Print Personal Size in Natural Leather
One of my favorite things about Crossway’s Bibles is that they are constantly using interesting leather. The Bible I’m looking at today is no exception. It has a unique design with beautiful, natural cowhide leather that will develop tons of character over time! Let’s check it out.
Out of the box, this Bible immediately strikes you by how unique it is. It has a fold over flap that protects the pages. You have to attach the strap yourself, but once you do, it wraps around the Bible several times to keep the cover closed. It looks unique and really cool. The natural cowhide is stunning. It’s light brown and will easily show marks and scratches. I love that! This Bible will tell the story of your use. The spine is blind stamped. The page edges are white. There’s one, small brown double-sided satin ribbon.
Inside there’s a dark brown, vinyl paste-down liner. This is a nice, portable edition. It’s no frills, but it’s meant to be used and absued. The paper is nice and has good texture. It may be a 32 gsm if I was guessing. It’s easy to turn and decently opaque, but there is slight ghosting. If the text isn’t line matched, it’s very close.
The layout is a double-column with textual notes in a single column across the bottom. The type is 8 point. My only knock on this edition is that words of Christ are in red. I certainly prefer black and Crossway actually doesn’t offer many red letter Bibles, but this is one of them.
There is a Concordance in the back, which is nice, but eliminating it would make this Bible smaller and more portable.
Ultimately, I love this Bible. I love the cowhide and the fold over flap. This Bible is meant to be thrown around and used to the fullest. I highly recommend it.
