Jesus and the Very Big Surprise by Randall Goodgame and Catalina Echeverri: A Children's Book Review

Many years ago the biggest surprise happened that could have ever happened. It sounds like a fairy tale, but it’s completely true. Our kids need to know the story and that’s why the newest book in the Tales that Tell the Truth series from the Good Book Company is an awesome one!

Randall Goodgame and Catalina Echeverri have teamed up to write and illustrate Jesus and the Very Big Surprise. It’s a true story about Jesus, his return, and how to be ready. Randall Goodgame is a singer/songwriter who has released six solo recordings and has written songs Caedmon’s Call and Veggie Tells. Catalina Echeverri is a freelance illustrator specializing in children’s books who has illustrated several books in the Tales that Tell the Truth series.

Jesus and the Very Big Surprise is based on the parable from Luke 12:35-38. The book teaches children that one day Jesus will return and the big surprise will be that he will serve his faithful servants. I love the way the book tells this story. Goodgame has a very fun way of writing and I especially love his gospel connection at the end explaining the death and very surprising resurrection of Jesus.

I also really love the illustrations in this book. I’m a big fan Echeverri’s work in children’s books and this one is no exception. She uses fun colors that grab your attention. Her characters always seem to have very animated expressions on their faces. She is truly talented and I see why The Good Book Company continues to use her. She has a way of making the story come alive.

I love every book in this series and Jesus and the Very Big Surprise is no exception. I have a one and three year old and they love these books. I know your kids will as well.
