The Collected Works of John Piper

There are no words to describe the huge blessing John Piper has been to the global church. I was first introduced to Piper through the Passion college ministry run by Louie Giglio. I then got a copy of Desiring God and it turned my world upside down. I remember reading it late into the night in my parents basement and waking up in the floor with the book still open in front of me. I know there are thousands or more who have stories they could share about the way Piper has impacted them.

John Piper has written more than many of us might ever read. His “Desiring God” ministry literally impacts the nations. His books have been translated to many languages. He does podcasts and his preaching has saturated the internet. This man is a true giant of the faith.

It is only fitting that Crossway would elegantly bind most of his books and writings and put them in a set. It’s a privilege for me to partner with Westminster Books to be able to bring you a review of The Collected Works of John Piper. I have been blessed so much by Piper’s ministry and I’m very grateful for this opportunity.

This collection is amazing. Just listen to what is included. You get 50 books (all being the latest edition) with new introductions written by Piper, hundreds of articles he’s written, and a volume with detailed indexes and an annotated bibliography. All of this is included in a beautiful 14 volume set. The collection covers the time period from 1970 to 2015. The editors say that the plan is to later release volumes of Piper’s writings after 2015 that can be added and complete the set.

These books are bound in a beautiful black cloth over board. On each spine “THE COLLECTED WORKS OF JOHN PIPER” is stamped in gold along with the volume number and the Crossway logo. These volumes are Smyth-sewn for durability. They are also printed on specialty book paper from Italy. The paper itself is a thick, cream color and looks great. As a Bible reviewer, I can tell you that some of the most sought after Bibles are the ones that have paper from Italy. No expense has been spared in creating this collection.

Each volume contains multiple books. A list of what is in each volume can be found at the beginning of the final volume. This is an incredible collection that displays the legacy of John Piper’s work for the Church in a truly worthy manner.

According to the editors, “To read all of Piper’s published writings individually would require the acquisition of more than one hundred volumes, along with tracking down dozens of older articles and reviews in obscure publications.” The Collected Works of John Piper is truly a gift to Christian readers and I highly recommend you head to Westminster Books and pick up a set for yourself!
