Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I mostly write about Christian Living, but I enjoy the Kentucky Wildcats, New Orleans Saints, and a good cup of coffee.

I feel like I constantly rave about Scripture Journals. I find them to be one of the most useful tools for both personal devotion and ministry. I keep finding uses for them and thanks to Crossway, I’ve found one more—shelf candy. The ESV Illuminated Scripture Journal Box Set is a display piece that anyone seeing your bookshelves will immediately notice. Not only are they useful, they’re beautiful.

These journals come in a two piece box that is navy blue with gold ornate designs. The box looks so great that you’ll almost want to keep it closed and display that. These actually come in two separate boxes. A large box contains the Old Testament and a much smaller box contains the New Testament. When you open the boxes you’ll reveal a rainbow of journals. This is why I recommend the Illuminated set. They are beautiful! The standard set is awesome, but it’s all black and boring. Why not get the Illuminated set and display God’s covenant promise with man to never flood the earth again? It’s awesome!

The journals themselves are also awesome. Each one has a gold foil design on the front and includes the name of the book or books within. The spine also has the name of the book, but my main complaint is that it’s so small. They need to make it bigger so you can see the name from a distance.

Inside, you’ll find Scripture text on one page and a lightly dotted grid on the adjacent page ready for you to fill it with your notes. The paper is a cream color and it’s thick. The thickness of the paper is one reason I love these journals so much. There is no ghosting and these are designed to be written in with whatever kind of pen you want! Also, on some pages in the Illustrated journals you’ll find gold-ink illustrations by artist Dana Tanamachi. These illustrations are nice and don’t take up the whole page. They really add some flavor to the Illustrated offering of these journals.

The type size in these is an 11.75, which is another reason I love them. My philosophy is always the bigger font, the better and these journals deliver! The layout is a single column format, which is once again my preference and allows you to take notes right beside the verses.

Typically I advocate for an approach of buying these journals when you need them for a specific book, but honestly, I really recommend saving your money and getting the whole box for the Illuminated set. They are awesome, they look awesome with an amazing box, and you’ll love the displace piece! Let me be real. My wife never seems too impressed with the stuff I review, but when these came in and she saw them she said, “Oh I’m jealous!” Get this set, you’ll be glad you did.

You can pick up you ESV Illuminated Journal Set at Crossway or on Amazon (affiliate).

Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this set from Crossway in exchange for a fair and honest review.
