The Crossway 2021 Heirloom Omega in Black Goatskin
Crossway is back baby! They’ve made an epic return to the Netherlands and to the greatness we all once knew and loved… and now know again. Opening up a Crossway Bible from the Netherlands brings a certain thrill that’s hard to describe. You know what makes it even better? When you know you purchased it from an incredible retailer like Westminster Books. I’m partnering with Westminster Books today to bring you a review of the new Crossway 2021 Omega in black goatskin.
This Bible comes in Crossway’s two piece black and gold box. It looks classy and when you open it up you’ll be amazed. In my opinion, the ESV is set apart by the velvet they wrap their premium Bibles in. This isn’t that cheap cardstock. This is high class! It seriously does feel high class.
You’ll immediately be struck by how thin the Omega is. It’s an amazing Bible because the footprint is slim yet the font is quite large. The black goatskin is incredible. It’s smooth and has excellent grain. The Bible is so flexible it might as well be butter in your hands!
The spine is also stunning. It has four raised hubs. Stamped in gold are the words, “HOLY BIBLE”, the ESV logo, “ENGLISH STANDARD VERSION”, and the Crossway logo.
This Bible has black and yellow head and tail bands. The page edges are a red under gold art gilt. Honestly, you’d probably more describe it as a salmon color that seems to be a signature of Crossway Heirlooms.
This Bible has four ribbon bookmarks that are all different colors. We’ve been saying it for a long time and it’s still true. Crossway needs to up it’s bookmark game. They are a double-sided satin, but they just look puny. These need to be longer and wider. Crossway, please take a note from Thomas Nelson here!
The Bible is Smyth-sewn and edge-lined for durability.
I’m not sure the gsm of the paper, but Crossway calls it high quality Bible paper and I’d agree with that sentiment. Ghosting is almost non-existant. This is a double column layout with an all black text.
I didn’t think the Omega could get any better, but Crossway has increased the font size to a 10.5 Lexicon type from a 10. The bigger the better is always my opinion on fonts so I applaud them here!
What could use a bit more work is the references. They are in the bottom right corner of each page and they’re a 5.8-point Trade Gothic LT Std type. They are small and very hard to read. I’m not sure the point with them being so small.
The back features a three column concordance, which is much more helpful. It also features eight pages of full color maps, which I could do without in a thinline, but that’s simply my preference.
I love the Omega. I love it even more when it’s printed in the Netherlands. This is a beautiful and well made Bible that you’ll be happy to have. It’s useful for preaching, teaching, and personal devotions. You’ll be glad you picked one up and you’ll be even more glad if you pick it up from Westminster Books!
