The Complete Works of John Owen: Volume 7

Crossway has taken up the mantle to publish The Complete Works of John Owen. They’re starting with Volume 7, The Holy Spirit — The Helper. This collection will include 40 volumes and is going to be released over a six year span.

This is exciting news for those like me who are lovers of Puritan classic works. It’s also exciting because Crossway is an excellent publisher who can make this collection look beautiful and read well. I’ve encountered other classic works where the type is hard to read because it is faded in some parts and the layout isn’t formatted well. Crossway has created a new typeset to make these volumes more readable. Even more, they have given supporting resources to aid in reading. Owen certainly isn’t the easiest Puritan to read. Crossway is helping Owen be more accessible by including extensive annotations, definitions, and translations of ancient languages.

If that isn’t enough they have wrapped these works in a beautiful binding. This is a hardcover with a beautiful abstract design as well as a beautifully decorated spine with raised ribs.

This book includes an extensive introduction from the editor that helps the reader to understand the personal, theological, and historical context. Then this book essentially contains two books in one. The first is titled, The Reason of Faith. The second is The Causes, Ways, and Means of Understanding the Mind of God.

The Puritans are a treasure trove of knowledge, wisdom, and devotion. Crossway has blessed us all by taking up the task of publishing John Owen’s complete works. It’s a set you will read, reference, and return to time and time again.
