Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I mostly write about Christian Living, but I enjoy the Kentucky Wildcats, New Orleans Saints, and a good cup of coffee.

New York is the New Murder Capital

At this point it has well been reported that New York has passed a bill that will allow the murder of babies as long as they’re in the womb. One month or nine months makes no difference to them. They are no longer trying to hide the fact that they are ok with the killing of babies so long as they aren’t outside of the womb.

I believe all abortion is murder, but at nine months we must and should logically ask, “What’s the difference between that and a baby who has just been born?” Where is the cut off? Why not kill one week olds as well? What about babies who have to stay in the NICU after they’re born? They’re still very dependent. Why are they now considered a baby? What if the parents change their mind and decide the baby is a real inconvenience after it’s been born? Why not kill those too? My bet is that when pressed there are no satisfying answers to be given for these questions.

The answer most likely to be given is the redefinition of what a human is according to the bill. The bill says that a “person” is “a human being who has been born and is alive.” So according to this bill, the difference between personhood is whether you are inside or outside of the mother. Anyone with a brain knows that this is a lie. It’s a redefinition to aid the agenda. A baby that is even past it’s due date, but has not been born yet is not considered a person according to this bill. Tragic, manipulative, sickening, and evil are words that come to mind when I think about this.

Back to the Garden

Abortion has been described as our modern day holocaust. This is growing ever more true. The fundamental sin behind abortion is nothing new. It’s the same sin that got Adam and Eve kicked out of the garden and cursed the whole world—the desire to be God. Pride, selfishness, and thinking that my happiness is what will give my life purpose and meaning is at the root of abortion.

I saw this quote yesterday and it’s a powerful statement. Josh Howerton said, “Abortion is the evil reverse-image of the gospel. Instead of ‘I’ll die for you,’ it says, ‘You die for me.’” This couldn’t be more true. Jesus came and having done nothing wrong, gave His life as a ransom for many. In abortion, an innocent, voiceless child’s life is taken so that another person’s life is not inconvenienced. Jesus willingly laid down his life; a baby’s life is sacrificed.

Grace

One thing I want to be clear on is that our God is patient and full of grace and mercy. If you’ve had an abortion then please know that there’s forgiveness that is only found in Jesus. The beauty of the gospel is that when we repent and believe in Jesus, God sees Jesus’ righteousness as ours and our sins have been atoned for. God is so full of grace if you will follow Him. He removes our guilt and shame and this free offer is for you reading this whether you’ve had one abortion or many.

Sin is Sin

However, that does not excuse Christians from calling sin, sin. Every single human is a sinner. Every single human needs that same grace. By crying out against abortion we recognize that every single human both born and unborn is made in the image of God and therefore has value. When murder happens that image is defaced. This is not an issue we can afford to be silent on when it has been reported that abortion is the number one cause of death in America by far.

New York is the new murder capital and with this new legislation, we can only expect that number to increase. Not only that, I can only imagine that other states will follow suite if it’s within their capabilities. State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins said, “We’re saying that here in New York, women’s health matters.” Unless, of course, that woman is in the womb.

Conclusion

We can’t be silent. We must call for justice. We must call for our states to criminalize abortion at the state level (which they have the power to do). We need to give a voice to the voiceless. We need to declare that the image of God matters. The unborn don’t have a voice. We need to be that voice.
