After you’ve been reviewing Bibles a few years, you really begin to feel like you’ve seen it all. Sometimes the wow factor just starts to go away. Then you meet someone who is pushing the envelope—someone like Jon over at ICA Bibles.
Welcome to my blog. I mostly write about Christian Living, but I enjoy the Kentucky Wildcats, New Orleans Saints, and a good cup of coffee.

I review a lot of premiums, but it’s really nice to get ahold of an awesome, cheap Bible every now and then and give it a review. The ESV Personal Reference Bible is just that. This Bible is awesome and I can’t believe I didn’t know about it. It’s also cheap, which means you can throw it in a bag and take it wherever you’re going without worrying about it. It’s also personal size so if your back pocket is big enough, you might just be able to shove it in there as well!
Could it be!? One of my favorite authors has released an Advent book! Jared C. Wilson writes in a way that resonates with me. I love the season of Advent. It literally changed my life and made my Christmases so much more focused and intentional. To get to celebrate Advent with Jared C. is more than I could have asked for!
The Bible I’m reviewing today certainly strikes me as interesting. It’s a bit of a conundrum albeit a beautiful one. We will talk more about that late though. I’m reviewing the new 2022 ESV Heirloom Thinline in black goatskin.
I’ve been hoping to review this Bible from Cambridge Bibles for quite some time. It combines a lot of things I really like: large font, verse by verse setting, and green! Yes, I really like green Bibles even though I don’t have many of them. I have thought this green goatskin NKJV Topaz from Cambridge was attractive for quite some time and I was finally able to get my hands on one! I’m quite excited about it.
I love prayer books. I think it is because I always need more help with prayer. Several books of Puritan prayers have been released and every time I see a new one I want to check it out. The latest offering is called Into His Presence and it has been edited and arranged by Tim Chester and published by The Good Book Company. As soon as I saw it I knew it was a must have.
Sometimes you need to spend some time apart to truly appreciate something. I saw this Bible a long time ago and I don’t think I truly gave it the love it deserved. I’m talking about the Premier Collection NASB 95 Preacher’s Bible from Zondervan.
Discovering the celebration of Advent changed my life. That’s no joke. I can’t count how many times we hit the Christmas season, things got busy, and I find myself sitting on Christmas day thinking, “That’s it? It’s here and about to be over? I feel like I forgot to focus on Jesus.” I would feel so discouraged and guilty. Advent helped my Christmas season become much more focused on Christ.
Baptists and Presbyterians have been debating the proper mode of baptism for ages. Quite often online I see stories of Baptists who have been swayed by the waters of Presbyterian Covenant Theology and have jumped the Baptist ship to head to a PCA church to baptize their children. Sadly, I hear the opposite much less often.
The letter of Romans in our Bibles is so heavy. We could spend the rest of our lives in this book and never exhaust the riches found in it. Many books have been written regarding it. John Piper spent eight years and 225 sermons preaching through Romans. There are thick commentaries and thinner commentaries written on examining it. The book I’m reviewing today by Andrew David Naselli is the latter.
I love a good Psalter. The Psalms are so useful for all of life. They convey every emotion. They can teach us to sing and they can teach us to pray. Any time I find a good resource on the Psalms, I am happy to get it. We could spend our entire lives in the Psalms and not exhaust them. That’s why I’m excited for this resource on the Psalms from Thomas Nelson.
The Bible I’m reviewing today was love at first sight. I saw it and knew I needed to check it out. Even more so, my oldest daughter wanted a full size Bible and this Bible looks so good that I hoped I could pass it to her after reviewing it. Let me just say, the pictures don’t do this Bible justice. It really is just a beautiful Bible and it’s a Kid’s Bible at that!
